Barracks Room Inspection Checklist

Barracks Room Inspection Checklist

Preparing for room inspections can be stressful. Tape the Barracks Room Inspection Checklist to the back of your door so you won’t be caught off guard.

I know some branches call them dorms, but I don’t get it. This invokes something that college folk don’t have to deal with: the dreaded Barracks room inspection.

Yes, their digs are much nicer compared to the rest of the barracks dwellers, but they still need to worry about their boss showing up and making their day trash.

Until you get the hang of the looming thought of an inspection, it can be overwhelming. But it doesn’t need to be. Routine is your biggest friend. You get up and ready for PT, your running late, so you figure you will make your bed and wash those dirty plates from last night later after PT.

But when you’re at your PT formation and see all the brass in their duty uniform, you suspect something is up. Yes its that time again: urinalysis and surprise inspections. That extra minute it would have taken to make the bed doesn’t really seem like a big deal now. But it’s alright; in another universe, you decided to check the back of your door and saw the handy dandy barracks room inspection checklist.

This checklist has one mission, and that’s to keep you in the zone when it comes to cleaning your room. Yes, it seems like it’s obvious, but you’re not thinking about this stuff all the time. You have many things on your mind, and cleaning tends to get a low priority.

But having a reminder on the back of your door is so much better than a private workout session with your NCO a few feet away. It’s here for you. Below are some quick tips if you would rather pull out your phone and get a friendly reminder.

Quick reminders

Dust on Window & Door Frames
Many people wipe surfaces but forget frames and trim.

Trash Can Condition
Emptying the trash isn’t enough. NCO’s may notice stains or odors.

Hidden Clutter
Items under the bed or piled in corners can draw attention.

Electronics and Cords
Loose cords and power strips can create a messy appearance and a fire hazard.

Sweeping & Mopping
Dust bunnies live everywhere. Don’t sweep into a corner; throw it out.

Desk Area
Cluttered papers are a no-go; be organized and have your papers put away in binders, if needed.

Clean & Dirty Clothes
Have everything put away in dressers or closets. Remove your unwashed clothes from the line of sight.

Wall Art
Understand your unit’s policy on what you can hang on your walls.

The Mini Fridge
Toss out old food; no science projects. Clean racks and deodorize.

Closet Space
Have your items hung neatly. Coat arms sticking out of your closet are a no-go.

Toilet
In addition to cleaning the bowl, wipe down the outside, even the low or hidden parts. Grim always finds a way.

Shower
Clean the curtain, shower head, and tile. If you can see it, wipe it clean.

Sinks
Wipe faucets as well as bowl. Check near stopper for grim.

Towles
Hang on a rack or over your curtain rod if need be. Balled up in the corner is a no-go.
