Hangers

Best for uniforms and any shirt or pants that you do not want wrinkled.

Best for all your dress uniforms. When possible, try to get stacking hangers to help with space.

Storage space is tight in the barracks, and you may only get one or two closets. Use these for your nicer clothes, dress’s, and board ready/inspection ready BDU’s/ACU’s.

Not good for very heavy jeans or non-clothing items you need stored. Best used as a grab-and-go, ready option.

If you get inexpensive hangers, be prepared for them to break often. Think plastics or metal may be your better option. If you get wire hangers, they can be used in many ways. Unravel them, and you can reach behind your desk/dresser.

Storage Bins

Best for taking advantage of dead space. Under the bed, above the closet, and if you get ones that stack, you can use a corner of the room, possibly behind a door.

Being in the military, we tend to be very task-oriented people. Use each container for a specific function. Cleaning items in one, Uniform/Boot care in one, and so on.

Have muddy boots? Take an empty bin and place them in it. When they dry, tap them together while in the bin, and you can easily remove a lot of the mud with out messy up your room.

Great to store all your unused CIF gear, or if your type to buy your gear outright, then you can keep it safe and clean while you wait to turn it back in.

If money is tight, you can stack a few, and you now have a table.

My Recommendation for Barracks Living

For most barracks rooms. You will need both. If closet space is tight, go with bins; if physical space is tight, go with hangers.
